The ‘Licht Am Rad’ concept integrates both bicycle lighting and additional indicators into the handlebar and saddle components. The front lights and indicators consist of a module that is simply inserted into the sides of the handlebars and can be easily removed by the user. The rear light is integrated into the ETPU cover. All light modules have their own power supply in form of a rechargeable battery. The ETPU material is particularly comfortable and reduces vibration. It ensures a perfect grip and due to the material properties, the components are very durable.

In addition to the design, the process for the project mainly involved the production of a suitable mould. As the prototypes were produced in cooperation with the Fraunhofer (ICT) using a radio frequency-based moulding process, special requirements had to be placed on the moulds. We experimented in advance with a pressure cooker in order to obtain appropriate results. As the moulds had to withstand high temperatures and pressure, we decided to use the materials GRP, PU and PC.
